-
What does DPC mean? This stands for Damp Proof Course, and is the term given to treatments and upgrades designed to prevent damage from rising damp, penetrating damp and ground water. It is a barrier which, when installed, prevents water seeping into your walls and causing significant damage. It often involves drilling into walls to inject a barrier material, but the exact method may vary depending on what’s best for your property.
-
What causes damp?Damp thrives in poorly ventilated, cold and poorly maintained properties. It is especially problematic in newer properties, which don’t always have the best ventilation in place. It can affect older properties, where previously installed damp proofing may be at the point of failing due to age. Damp can also be cause by leaks, defective guttering, condensation and high ground levels.
-
How much will my repairs cost? This is entirely dependant on the severity of damage and the work required. We will always provide a competitive quote before work begins. Quotes are valid for up to 3 months.
-
Is your work guaranteed?Yes. All damp and timber treatments come with a 20-year guarantee. Waterproofing is guaranteed for 10 years, and condensation systems for 2 years.
-
What type of damp proofing will I need? This depends on what is causing your damp problems, and the property itself. Common methods include injectable barriers, basement tanking and cavity membranes.
-
How soon can I decorate? We advise that walls take around one month per 25mm wall thickness to fully dry out. This can vary depending on temperature, ventilation and how severe the original issue was.
-
Do I already have damp proofing? Most properties will have some form of damp proofing. If you are unsure or are concerned that previously installed methods aren’t sufficient, give our team a call.
